Dan Eichinger
Bio
Dan Eichinger worked as a public defender in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania for over 10 years. While there, he served as an appellate attorney, trial attorney, trial manager, and Deputy of the Trial Division. In 2022, Dan began working for Wayne County's Indigent Defense Services Department in Detroit, where he facilitated services, resources and training for attorneys assigned to represent indigent clients. In April, 2025, Dan began working for Neighborhood Defender Services - Detroit, where he provides direct representation to indigent clients charged with felonies. With a passion to help others avoid the harmful impact of the criminal legal system, he regularly visits high schools throughout Detroit to teach students about their constitutional rights.
Executive Director’s Perspective
While Dan left Pittsburgh for Detroit a couple years ago, Dan left behind an important legacy as a public defense leader. And fortunately for us, Dan is still committed to Pittsburgh, and regularly consults with ALIJ to share the insights he gained while administering Detroit’s appointed-counsel system.
